did you even try

why is it my fault i don't have a voice

when it's you and your world that silenced me

i was just a quick learner

wasn't it your job to teach me to speak

wasn't it your words i could learn to preach

wasn't it up to you to see the future in your daughter's eyes

the hope behind the blue

or did that scare you

because it meant changing yourself

but didn't you see

the evolution of you meant the evolution of me

of my daughters, and their daughters

of my sons, and their sons

a ripple creates waves

you had that power

by birthright were given that power

but you didn't use your power to create waves

only fear

so i found my own power

lifted my own voice, my own words

into the ocean of sound

waves of women

the hope behind the blue
